Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 package instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 container whipped topping thawed
  • 1/2 cup chocolate syrup or chocolate frosting

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Saucepan
  • 9x13 baking dish
  • Whisk
  • Hand mixer

Method

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare a greased baking dish. In a saucepan, combine water and butter until melted and boiling, then stir in the flour until a smooth dough forms.
  2. Let the dough cool slightly, then beat in the eggs one at a time until glossy. Spread the dough evenly into the baking dish and bake until puffed and golden.
  3. Whisk together the pudding mix and milk. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth, then fold in the whipped topping.
  4. Once the crust is completely cool, spread the filling over the top and finish with chocolate syrup or chocolate frosting. Chill until set before slicing.

Notes

  • Chill the cake well for the cleanest slices.
  • Cool the crust fully before adding filling.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
