Ingredients

  • 2 large firm apples peeled, cored, and cut into sticks
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
  • cooking spray
  • caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for serving

Equipment

  • air fryer
  • Three shallow bowls
  • Mixing bowl
  • Tongs

Method

  1. Toss apple sticks with lemon juice. Set up bowls with flour, beaten egg mixed with milk, and panko mixed with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. Coat each apple stick in flour, dip it into the egg mixture, and roll it in the seasoned breadcrumbs. Press gently so the coating adheres.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 3 to 5 minutes. Lightly spray the basket and arrange the coated apples in a single layer.
  4. Lightly spray the apples and cook at 375°F for 8 to 10 minutes, turning or shaking halfway through, until golden and tender.
  5. Rest for two minutes, then serve warm with caramel sauce, vanilla yogurt, chocolate sauce, or ice cream.

Notes

  • Use firm apples and cut them evenly for consistent cooking.
  • Cook in batches if the basket is crowded.
  • Reheat leftovers at 350°F for 3 to 4 minutes.
